In 1962 Seattle hosted the World's Fair. When it was over, there remained a collection of monuments and buildings called the Seattle Center which to this day hosts many special events such as festivals, concerts, exhbitions and sporting events. One of the largest is Heritage Week, a festival celebrating the city's many different cultures in the last week of May. Another major event is Bumpershoot in September, the last major outdoor festival in Seattle before the rains begin.
Parking is the biggest problem in going to and from the center. There are several accesible parking garages in the area but the crowds can still make it a slow frustrating process. Visitors may avoid it all by going via monorail or by bus through the undergound tunnels.
